College Bound

Cait got into college yesterday. Longwood University. It's not her first choice, or even her second, but she was pretty delighted that she had been accepted someplace. So am I. At least that worry is over.

We went to Yamato's to celebrate. Cait, Mike, Liddy, and Cait's boyfriend Chris and me. It was great. Really enjoyable. We haven't been there in quite a while and the owner was really happy to see us. I had stopped in for sushi one night late last month but we haven't eaten at the hibachi tables for quite a while. The food there is absolutely delicious.

I'm working on putting the house back together. Living Room first, then the Dining Room, followed by the Family Room. The new dining room rug arrived this morning and I hope I can count on the kids to help me re-assemble everything.

My brother and his wife and beautiful daughter are coming for Thanksgiving and I want everything to be perfect. *fingers crossed*

Kylie the puppy broke out of the sunroom and is sitting on the floor next to me. She's such a funny little dog, but I wish she would stop crapping in the sunroom. There's a doggie door, but she prefers not to use it except to stick her head out and watch the critters in the backyard.

Happy Humpday!

Painters are still here. That's okay, though. They are so nice, I am actually going to miss them.

Kids will be home in a few minutes, so I figured I would write something, but I can't think of anything to write.

So, here's a picture of Cait at Homecoming.

Tuesday musings.

People blog for a variety of reasons. I am blogging for no particular one. My thoughts are often of the 'stream of consciousness' variety and I feel at some point the brilliance might be lost, so I decided to blog.

The painters haven't arrived yet today. They are really a nice bunch, but somewhere deep inside I think that they think we are all just a bit nuts. And, frankly, they would be right. This house is full of life. All the time. Even when it's just me in my office doing my thing. The dogs are always barking, the phone is always ringing...you get the drift.

And, then at 2:30, the fun begins anew. Cait comes home, then Liddy and now that wrestling has started, Mike arrives somewhere about 5:30ish.

Last night, Cait and I viewed her senior portraits. I think they are beautiful. I bought a portrait for each of my brothers and I think I will need more because there are some other family members that would like one. They came out so nicely, but of course, she thinks they are ugly. :eyes:

I really hope the painters will be done by next week. Otherwise, we'll have to have Thanksgiving in the backyard and I'll have to ask the painters to join us.

Chaos

The house is a complete disaster. The painters are still here, two weeks into what is looking more and more like it will be a four week job. They are the nicest guys, that's for sure, but I want to get my house put back together so that I can think about Thanksgiving.

My brother and his family are coming for Thanksgiving. It should be a delightful time. My niece is beyond adorable and my brother and his wife are just so wonderful to be around. My other brothers can't make it, which is sad, but it will be nice to have someone here to cook for. Liddy is going to make an apple pie. She is really excited about it.

Tonight, I go to my friend Sharon's to see Cait's Senior Portraits. I know I will start crying. Anything that has to do with her graduating and going to college makes me cry. I just can't imagine how things will be here this time next year. I will miss her terribly, but I can't help but be excited for her because she is so thrilled to be going on to college. She wants to take her car, but that isn't happening. Mike will be getting his license, and I'm not going to be one of those families with five cars in the driveway for three drivers.

Mike starts wrestling today. I hope he likes it. He's got a fantastic build for it, so I really hope he enjoys it.

Hard to get motivated this morning. It's going to warm up, which will be nice, and I am hoping to, at the very least, get the family room back together today. The painters are downstairs cleaning up the spackling dust from the floor and the woodwork. At least I don't have to do that part.

School's back in.

Back to the daily grind of getting up at 6, making breakfast, packing lunches, writing checks, and going back to bed. :)

Getting back into the swing of things is hard for a night owl like me. Cait is able to roust herself out of bed at 6 without any problems; Mike has to be essentially blasted out with an explosive device. Liddy gets up because she likes getting ready with her big sister and I stay in bed until the last possible minute.

Today, once the kids left, Mr. asked me to go to Lowe's with him to pick out hardwoods for the second floor hall. We tore up the carpet yesterday and for some reason the house no longer smells like a kennel. Dogs. Love 'em, that's for sure, their byproducts, not so much.

Anyway, I declined because I'm exhausted and he went without me. He is currently downstairs pounding the wood into place and calling up to me occasionally to see 'if you've got any time to help'. Nope. Sorry. Lots and lots of work, plus creating this blog.
